Beyond the Black Gate

I have to peel the layers,

My subconscious awaits,

Look beyond the prayers,

What’s beyond those gates?

I may not like who I find,

Lurking beneath the earth,

Walking into this blind,

I give myself a wide berth.

The carer, the fearful,

Those I already know,

I lost the tearful,

Or did she burrow?

Only I can take this journey,

The battle awaits,

I will alone face this tourney,

As I walk towards the black gate.

It has been too long, but as always July comes with its unbearable sadness, and that all then leads to writer’s block.

This poem is inspired by my therapist asking me to get to know myself, which I am terrified of.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to post more in the coming weeks.

As always, thanks for reading.

Emma.
